Fund IRL Coalition

Connecticut is set to receive up to $265.4 million as part of a major multistate settlement with Meta Platforms, Inc., and for those of us who work with children and young people, one part of the agreement deserves particular attention: at least half of Connecticut’s funds must be directed toward addressing harms to youth associated with social media.

Fund IRL is a national coalition that brings together youth-serving organizations, advocates, funders, and community leaders around a shared goal: if public funds emerge from social media litigation involving harms to young people, those resources should be invested in “in real life” community-based programs and supports that help young people thrive.

The coalition now includes more than 40 national partners as well as local organizations across 47 states. Fund IRL brought together coalition members and advocates to develop our guiding principles and framework for investing potential litigation payouts in In Real Life (IRL) alternatives, safe digital engagement tools and policies, and mental health services and supports to remediate harms.

We Welcome Ongoing Conversation

Fund IRL serves as a resource for Attorneys General and state leaders exploring how potential payouts could create lasting benefits for young people and communities. We welcome opportunities to connect state leaders with coalition partners and young people and support conversations about effective, transparent investments in youth.
